Things on Hooks
'Things on Hooks' is a self initiated series and consists of six colored-pencil drawings on paper, which were then printed on crepe de chine. The project explores the moment an image breaks free from its frame, both literally and narratively. The drawings play with the grid as an organizing principle, much like in a comic strip. However, because the boundaries between the frames are crossed, the work is perceived as a single, unified framework. I created this series while working on a graphic novel, a project in which I am also investigating the influence of framing.
The works were exhibited in front of the big windows of Volkshotel Amsterdam, which made it seem like the images were actually moving, adding to the absurdism of the shapes crossing and merging with the frames.
The Things on Hooks series is also printed on Hahne Muhle fine art paper and on silk scarves.
